Go/Stop

Possible Objectives:

• Turn Taking

Materials:

• Stop and Go cards, see below for visual aid idea
• If applicable, cards with client’s names
• Instruments, non-specific

Procedure:

Review what stop/go and/or red light/green light if needed. If applicable, place name cards in container. The client’s name that is drawn is designated the leader and gets to have the group start and go. If not applicable (such as working one on one), take turns with the client so that both therapist and the client get to be the leader. When the go card is shown, everyone plays their instrument. When the stop card is shown, everyone stops playing.

Visual Aid idea:

Choose the size of paper/card best for the group or individual client. I have made mine on index cards because I worked in a small setting. The index card is color coded on the back so the leader can easily tell which card is which without having to think too much (i.e. Go has green on the back, Stop has red on the back). I store them together on a binder ring.
